Scott Winters

Hello.  My name is Scott Winters.  I am a conductor, a concert producer, and a seasoned arts administrator living and working in Minneapolis, MN.  In my work I am interested in finding balance bewteen importance and relevancy,  message and content,  high art and entertainment.  I believe there is value at both ends of this spectrum, but I am constantly seeking the middle.  Whether its a serious symphony concert with a broader audience appeal or an indie rock event that aspires to find deeper meaning, I am most attracted to projects that tug on the edges of established genres in a search of a common ground that is both thoughtful and engaging.

9-11 Memorial Music Director

In September, 2011 I was honored to serve as Music Director of Minnesotans Standing Together, the state's official 9-11 memorial held on the State Capitol Mall.  For this event I booked and managed talent including rapper Brother Ali, soul singer Sheila Raye Charles, folk artist Larry Long, and others.  I also conducted an orchestra of players from the Minnesota Orchestra, SPCO, Minnesota Sinfonia and Minnesota Opera Orchestra.  Manny Laureano (trumpet) and Marni Hougham (English horn) were soloists for a performance of Copland's "Quiet City".  Other works included Barber's "Adagio for Strings" and the slow movement of Tchaikovsky's "Serenade for Strings."   Here are some photos from the event.

White Christmas Rocks the House

Websites are for bragging a little, right?  Well I'd like to brag a little about the production of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" that I'm doing right now.  I have been lucky to be part of some fine theater productions in the past, but Chaska Valley Family Theater's "White Christmas" (now through December 11) is really quite special.  It boast fine acting, a well-done set design and some really outstanding dancing (the second act begins with a dance number that has stopped the show every night).  But what I'm most proud of is my pit.  This is easily the best bunch of players I have had for a show - and I've assembled some pretty good pits.  If you ask me, I think these guys have moments when they sound BETTER than the Broadway CD!  For performance details click here.
